#23 Titans Sweep Tigers

Greencastle, Ind. - Illinois Wesleyan scored four in the top of the seventh of game one for a 7-3 win over DePauw before topping the Tigers by a 10-1 count in the second game. The Tigers dropped to 20-20, while the 23rd-ranked Titans improved to 27-9-1.

In the opener, the Titans scored a pair of unearned runs in the first before DePauw countered in the bottom half of the inning on back-to-back doubles from Kaylyn Linder and Lauren Godden.

Brittany Murphy's single in the second drove in Kara Bischoff and gave Illinois Wesleyan a 3-1 lead, but DePauw again answered in the bottom of the frame as Megan Montgomery led off with an infield single, stole second, advanced to third on a grounder and came home on Abey Bass' single.

The Tigers evened the score in the fifth when Linder's single scored Bass who led off the inning by reaching on an error.

Stephanie Prentice led off the Titans' seventh with a single and moved to second on Jillian Runyon's single. Prentice scored on a double steal as the throw to third was wide. Sam Berghoff later delivered a two-run double and Courtney Barrett a run-scoring single.

Linder and Montgomery each had two of DePauw's seven hits, while Berghoff had two of the Ttians' nine hits.

Devin Pieper suffered the loss and dropped to 5-5, while Ally Wiegand improved to 12-3 with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

In the nightcap, Berghoff slugged a two-run homer in the fourth and a three-run shot in the sixth to help the guests to the win.

Sidney Holler hit a pair of doubles for the Tigers who totaled six hits. Illinois Wesleyan finished with 10 hits paced by two each from Berghoff, Sydney Alery, Maggie Graham and Prentice.

Brooke Bandy dropped to 2-1 on the season, while Brea Walker improved to 9-3.

The Tigers open North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament play on Friday, May 4, with a 10 a.m. game against Denison at Wittenberg.
