Tigers Split with Big Red

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Granville, Ohio - Three DePauw pitchers combined for a 1-0 shutout over Denison in game one, but the Big Red earned a split with a walkoff double in the second game and a 5-4 victory. The Tigers moved to 17-18 overall and 11-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while Denison is now 22-8 overall and 11-3 in the conference.

In the opener the game's lone run crossed in the first inning as Bekka Roberts led off with a single and pinch-runner Abey Bass moved to second on Kaylyn Linder's sacrifice bunt. Lauren Godden's ground out moved Bass to third before Jordy Fera walked. Fera attempted a steal of second which allowed Bass to come home and give DePauw a 1-0 lead.

The Big Red left the bases loaded in the bottom half of the first and stranded two twice more in the contest.

Five different Tigers totaled one hit each, while Emilie Fisher and Ricki Asher each had two of Denison's seven hits.

Devin Pieper, who entered in relief of starter Brooke Bandy, improved to 4-3 with the win, while Emma Baldwin closed with three innings for her second save of the season. Denison's Sarah Herold dropped to 10-4.

The Big Red scored twice in the bottom of the first of the second game as Lauren Secaras delivered an RBI double and Laura Bagan plated Herold with a single. They made it 3-0 in the fourth when Fisher doubled home Asher.

DePauw was held scoreless until the sixth when Linder and Godden each reached on errors and Fera walked to load the bases. Becca St. Germain singled home Linder before Alyssa Nowak tied the game with a two-run single. Liz Getz followed with a grounder that scored Breanna DeYoung and gave DePauw a 4-3 lead.

Denison evened the score in the sixth as Fisher tripled with two outs and scored on Herold's single. Amanda Howell led off the Denison seventh with a walk and pinch-runner Charlotte Happel moved to second on Bagan's single. Lindsey Clemson delivered a one-out double down the left field line that scored Happel with the game-winning run.

Three different Tigers collected one hit apiece, while Fisher and Herold each had three of Denison's 13 hits, while Secaras and Bagan each added two.

Pieper dropped to 4-4, while Secaras improved to 4-1.
