DePauw Opens NCAC Play with Doubleheader Sweep at Wooster

Wooster, Ohio - DePauw opened North Coast Athletic Conference play with a doubleheader sweep of Wooster by scores of 6-0 and 12-1. The Tigers moved to 6-14 overall and 2-0 in NCAC play, while the Fighting Scots are now 7-13 overall and 0-2 in conference. play.

In the opener, the Tigers scored four in the third as Jordyn Fera drove in Mina Shaw with a double and then scored when Kat Panos reached on an error. Panos and Kaylyn Linder later came home when Liz Getz reached on an error.

Becca St. Germain's fifth-inning double plated Megan Montgomery before Sarah Beischer scored in the seventh on a wild pitch after running for Lauren Godden who led off the frame with a double.

Linder led DePauw with two of its nine hits, while four different Fighting Scots collected one hit each.

Julia Bork improved to 3-6 after striking out six and not walking a batter in tossing the complete game. Maddy Chase dropped to 1-4.

In the nightcap, the Tigers banged out 17 hits including a school-record tying eight doubles. 

After the teams battled through three scoreless innings, Wooster struck first in the fourth as Chase led off with a double, moved to third on a ground out and scored on Marina Roski's sacrifice fly.

DePauw scored five in the fifth as Alyssa Nowak drove in two with a bases-loaded double before Linder drove in one with a grounder. Montgomery and Godden each added RBI doubles to give the Tigers a 5-1 lead.

Getz reached on an error in the sixth that allowed two to score before the Tigers added another five in the seventh. Sidney Holler had a two-run double before Nowak added an RBI single and Linder and Getz also had run-scoring doubles.

Fera led the Tigers with three hits, while Nowak, Getz, Montgomery and Holler had two apiece. Chase and Totman had the lone hits for Wooster.

Emma Baldwin improved to 3-6 with the two-hit complete game, while Olivia Johnson dropped to 3-5.

DePauw returns to action tomorrow with an 11 a.m. doubleheader against Hiram to be played at Wooster.
