DePauw Drops Two More One-Run Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Salisbury, Md. - DePauw nearly rallied for a come-from-behind win in the first game and failed to hold a lead in the nightcap as it dropped both games to Salisbury, 3-2 and 6-5. The Tigers dropped to 4-10 with their fifth and sixth one-run losses of the year, while the Sea Gulls improved to 13-7.

In the opener, Salisbury scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to take a 3-0 lead.

Mina Shaw led off the DePauw seventh with a bunt single before Sarah Beischer singled with two outs. Alyssa Nowak entered as a pinch-hitter and singled up the middle to load the bases. Megan Montgomery delivered a two-run single to right, but a ground out ended the game.

Liz Getz had two of DePauw's seven hits, while Kristen Yanarella had two of the Sea Gulls' six hits.

Julia Bork dropped to 2-4 with the loss, while Shannon Powell improved to 4-2 with the complete-game win.

In the second game, the hosts grabbed a 4-0 lead with one each in the first and third and two in the second. The Tigers started their comeback in the fourth as Kaylyn Linder and Abey Bass walked and advanced a base on a wild pitch. Lauren Godden's single scored Linder before Bass scored on a two-out wild pitch.

The Tigers took the lead in the fifth as Sidney Holler walked before Jordyn Fera and Linder singled to load the bases. Montgomery pinch hit and singled home Holler. Bass then followed with a single that plated Fera. Godden's ground out brought home Linder with the go-ahead run.

DePauw loaded the bases in the sixth with two outs in the top of the seventh but couldn't score.

Salsbury's Madeira Alexander singled with one out in the bottom of the seventh and advanced to third on an error after Emily Allen reached on a fielder's choice. Alexander scored on Sami Mumford's sacrifice fly, but the Tigers dropped the ball and Mumford reached base. Amelia Trotter followed with a bunt single to load the bases before Alissa Saverino singled home Allen with the game-winning run.

Montgomery and Godden each had two of DePauw's seven hits. Annie Pietanza collected two of Salisbury's eight hits.

Emma Baldwin dropped to 2-4 with the loss, while Rachael Milligan improved to 4-2.

The Tigers return to action on Tuesday, March 27, when they travel to top-ranked, undefeated and defending national champion Virginia Wesleyan for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
