Six-Run Inning Lifts Illinois College to Win over Tigers

Westfield, Ind. - Illinois College scored six runs in the fifth and defeated DePauw by a 9-4 score in a DePauw Invitational game at Grand Park. DePauw moved to 4-6 on the season, while the Lady Blues improved to 6-6.

Illinois College jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on RBI singles from Maddy Morgan and Lea Hall.

The Tigers evened the score in the second as Liz Getz led off with a double and scored on an error after Sidney Holler grounded out. Kathleen Byers then doubled and pinch-runner Sarah Beischer scored on Jordyn Fera's single.

The Lady Blues regained the lead in the bottom of the second as Hailey Lesser stole home as part of a double steal.

Kaylyn Linder led off the DePauw third with a bunt single, moved to second on a grounder and scored on Getz's triple to even the score at 3-3. DePauw took its only lead in the fourth when Holler led off with a walk and pinch-runner Mina Shaw advanced to second on a grounder before scoring on Megan Montgomery's single.

Illinois College gained the lead for good in the fifth as it plated six runs on just four hits. Mikayla Greenwood delivered the go-ahead RBI on a single that scored Sam Seggerman who tripled home Hall to tie the game.

Linder, Becca St. Germain, Getz and Byers each collected two of DePauw's 11 hits. Savanna Brady had two of the Lady Blues' nine hits.

Julia Bork dropped to 2-2 with the relief loss, while Mariah Hedges improved to 3-3.

DePauw returns to action on Sunday, March 18, when it faces WashU at 10 a.m. and fifth-ranked Trine at 3 p.m. For a complete tournament schedule, please visit the official site.
