DePauw Sustains Season's First Loss

Springfield, Ohio - DePauw cut a 13-point deficit to five with 2:14 left, but 14th-ranked Wittenberg scored seven straight and topped the Tigers, 77-66. DePauw dropped to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference play, while Wittenberg improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

A back-and-forth first half ended in a 30-28 Wittenberg lead. The hosts extended that lead to as many as 13 with the last coming at 65-52 with four minutes left.

DePauw put together a 9-1 run which wrapped up with a pair of 3-pointers from Matthew Godfrey which closed the Wittenberg lead to 66-61 with 2:14 left.

Wittenberg's Jordan Pumroy countered with a 3-pointer with 1:39 remaining and Connor Seipel added a layup after a DePauw miss to push the lead back to double digits with 45 seconds left.

Josh Hall led DePauw with 13 points and eight rebounds with Aaron Shank adding 12 points and Godfrey 11. Luke Steinhart dished out four assists.

All five Wittenberg starters scored in double figures led by Mitchell Balser with 21 and Pumroy with 14. Seipel added 12 with James Johnson and Jake Bertemes each scoring 10. Seipel grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and Pumroy handed out four assists.

Wittenberg shot 49.1 percent from the field to DePauw's 39.3 percent and the hosts held a 34-26 rebound advantage. 

DePauw hosts Oberlin on Saturday, December 8, at 3 p.m.
