Tigers Move to 5-0 with Win in NCAC Opener

Gambier, Ohio - DePauw trailed by as many as 11 in the opening seven minutes of its North Coast Athletic Conference game at Kenyon, but went on a 24-8 run on the way to an 83-75 victory. The Tigers improved to 5-0 overall for the first time since the beginning of the 2009-10 season and 1-0 in the NCAC, while the Lords dropped to 0-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Kenyon got out to a 25-14 lead in the opening 6:32 on the strength of five 3-pointers. The Tigers quickly stopped the momentum by putting together a 14-4 run to close to within one at 29-28. The Lords scored the next four to extend their lead to five, but DePauw scored the next 11 before heading to halftime with a 39-36 lead. The lead went back and forth for part of the opening of the second half before DePauw grabbed a 53-47 lead on Aaron Shank's layup with 11:19 left which capped a 9-0 stretch.

The Lords, however, countered with an 11-1 run to take a 58-54 advantage with 8:22 remaining. The Kenyon lead was still five at 61-56 before DePauw scored 15 of the next 17 to gain the lead for good at 71-63 with 2:38 left. 

Luke Steinhart led four DePauw double-figure scorers with a career-high 18, while Nick Felke added 17. Shank chipped in a career-best 11 and Nolan Ginther finished with 10. Andrew Kus grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds as DePauw held a 49-35 edge on the boards.

Matt Shifrin paced Kenyon with 34 and hit eight 3-pointers. Carter Powell followed with 13 and team highs of nine boards and four assists, while Elijah Anderson added 10 points.

DePauw returns to action on Wednesday, December 5, when it travels to seventh-ranked Wittenberg for a 7 p.m. NCAC contest.
