Tigers Move to 2-0 with Win over Blackburn

Jacksonville, Ill. - DePauw trailed by five with 3:30 left, but proceeded to go on an 11-1 run capped by Nick Felke's 3-pointer and held on for a 92-88 win over Blackburn in a game played at Illinois College. The Tigers moved to 2-0, while the Beavers dropped to 1-1.

Blackburn grabbed an 81-76 lead with 3:40 left after Karson Hayes buried a 3-pointer. Matthew Godfrey and Josh Hall countered with back-to-back treys and Felke hit two free throws to give DePauw an 84-81 lead with 2:27 remaining. 

Hayes hit a free throw to temporarily stop the run but Felke's three with 1:08 left pushed the lead to 87-82. Duncan King's layup cut the Tigers' lead to 87-84, but Nolan Ginther's layup made it 89-84 with 28 seconds remaining. Luke Steinhart hit 3 of 4 free throws in the final 13 seconds to seal the win.

The game was tight throughout with 15 ties and 20 lead changes and neither team leading by more than seven. DePauw led at halftime, 46-42.

Felke paced the Tigers with 17 points followed by Ginther and Godfrey with 15 each and Hall with 11. Hayes led Blackburn with 36 points and King added 25.

Ginther led DePauw with nine rebounds, while Bryson Kirby had six for the Beavers as DePauw held a 34-28 edge on the boards. Cole Jenkins dished out a team-high six assists for the Tigers, while Nigel Ferrell had five for Blackburn.

DePauw shot 47.3 percent from the floor including 12 of 27 from beyond the arc while knocking in 28 of 37 free throws. Blackburn shot 52.8 percent from the field and knocked in 18 of 32 3-pointers.

The Tigers face Principia at 4 p.m. CST tomorrow at Illinois College.
