#3 Wittenberg Snaps DePauw's Win Streak

Springfield, Ohio - Third-ranked Wittenberg totaled 17 team blocks and ended DePauw's eight-match win streak with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-23) win over the visiting Tigers. DePauw dropped to 12-8 overall and 5- 1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while Wittenberg improved to 17-2 overall and 6-0 in conference play.

DePauw trailed Wittenberg, 17-9, in the opening set before scoring three straight. However, the hosts scored seven of the next eight points to pull away. They carried that momentum over to the second set where they scored the first three points on the way to a 16-4 lead. DePauw couldn't trim the deficit to single digits the remainder of the set. 

Wittenberg scored the first two points of the third set, but DePauw scored six straight including a pair on aces from Kaylee Nichols. The hosts scored the next four to even the set at 6-6, but DePauw eventually grabbed an 18-11 lead after Morgan Stearley's kill. A 10-0 Wittenberg run ensued before DePauw tied the set at 21-21 and 23-23, but Wittenberg scored the final two for the win.

Wittenberg outhit DePauw, .202-(-.032) and had a 33-27 edge in kills. DePauw held a 7-3 edge in aces, but Wittenberg led in digs, 60-54, and in team blocks 17.0-5.0.

Stearley and Suzanne Peters each had 10 kills, while Ally Low had 14 assists. Nichols and Jenna Purichia each had three aces with Nichols recording a team-high 14 digs. Stealey had one block solo and one block assist.

DePauw travels to Hanover on Thursday, October 18, for a 7 p.m. match.
