Tigers Get First NCAC Win with 54-39 Showing Against Lords

Greencastle, Ind. – DePauw won their second consecutive game and their first North Coast Athletic Conference game of the year on Saturday with a 54-39 win over Kenyon.

David Vogel led all scorers with 14 points, and freshman Ken Decker provided a spark off the bench with a career-high 13. Jack VandeMerkt, another off the bench, contributed six points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Josh Hall finished with seven points and eight rebounds.

Ben Stern scored 14 as the only Kenyon player to reach double figures.

DePauw shot 39 percent (20-of-52) from the floor, 41 percent (7-of-17) from beyond the arc and 54 percent at the free throw line (7-of-13). Kenyon shot 24 percent from both the floor and 3-point range and shot 56 percent from the charity stripe.

Both benches scored 23 points, while DePauw outscored Kenyon in the paint 22-14 and outrebounded the Lords 46-36.

There were four lead changes within the first 13 minutes but after a Decker 3-pointer with 7:25 remaining the first half, DePauw led the rest of the way. The Tigers led 30-20 at halftime and led by as many as 16 with 8:16 to go in the game.

DePauw moves to 5-8 overall and 1-5 in the NCAC. Kenyon drops to 4-9 and 1-5 in conference play.

Looking at the week ahead, DePauw will travel to Denison on Jan. 10 and Oberlin on Jan. 13 before returning home on Jan. 17 to host Wabash.
