DePauw Splits First Two Games at Illinois Wesleyan Tournament

Bloomington, Ill. - DePauw moved to 6-14 on the season after splitting its first two games at the Illinois Wesleyan Softball Tournament. The Tigers topped Buena Vista, 7-3, in the opening game and dropped a 5-1 contest against 23rd-ranked Illinois Wesleyan.

The Tigers fell behind 1-0 in the first of the opener as Buena Vista's Michaela Mason reached on an error, stole second, moved to third on a ground out and scored on Taylor Frain's grounder.

DePauw evened the score in the third as Julia Bork led off with a double and pinch-runner Andi Sarkisian moved to third on Mina Shaw's sacrifice bunt and scored on Megan Montgomery's single.

Sidney Holler's leadoff homer in the fourth gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead, but the Beavers evened it in the bottom of the fourth when Mason singled home Cheyanne Boland.

The Tigers added two more in the fifth on Lauren Godden's RBI double and Holler's run-scoring single. Godden delivered a two-run double in the seventh and Emma Baldwin was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for the final run.

Buena Vista added a run in the bottom of the final frame as Keely Bycroft singled home Haley Stevens.

Gabby Smart had three of DePauw's 12 hits, while Montgomery, Godden and Holler each added two. Mason had two of Buena Vista's six hits.

Brooke Bandy improved to 2-8, while Baldwin picked up her first save. Moriah Guyett dropped to 8-4 with the loss.

Illinois Wesleyan grabbed a 1-0 lead in the Tigers' second game when Jillian Runyon stole third and scored on a DePauw throwing error in the first. Abey Bass evened the score in the second when she bunted home Sarah Beischer.

The Titans added two each in the second and the fifth for the win.

Five different Tigers had one hit each, while Maggie Graham and Katie Caufield each had two of Illinois Wesleyan's eight hits.

Baldwin dropped to 2-5 with the loss, while Mackenzie Marquis improved to 6-3.

DePauw wraps up the tournament tomorrow with a 2 p.m. CDT contest against Anderson and a 4:30 p.m. CDT game against Illinois Wesleyan.
