Tigers Rally for Game One Win; Blank Ladies in Nightcap for Sweep

Gambier, Ohio - In the final games before the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament, DePauw rallied for a 7-4 win at Kenyon in the first game of a doubleheader and blanked the Ladies, 4-0, in game two.

With the sweep, the Tigers moved to 20-18 overall and finished NCAC play at 13-3. Kenyon finished its season at 13-27 overall and 5-11 in the conference.

The Tigers earned the number-two seed in the NCAC Tournament and will face third-seed Denison in Friday's 10 a.m. game at Wittenberg.

In today's opener, DePauw jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first as Sidney Holler doubled home a pair. The Tigers added one more in the fifth after Holler singled home Alyssa Nowak.

Kenyon rallied in the sixth as Britny Patterson's single closed the lead to 3-1 before Grace Pilz clubbed a three-run homer to give the Ladies a 4-3 lead.

Bekka Roberts led off the DePauw seventh with a pinch-hit walk before Mina Shaw re-entered and moved to second on Julia Bork's sacrifice bunt. Lauren Godden delivered a run-scoring single to even the score before Holler hammered a two-run homer to put the Tigers back in front. Abey Bass followed with a double and scored on Liz Getz's single.

Holler had three of DePauw's 10 hits and led the way with five RBI, while Godden and Getz each had two hits in the win. Lauren Graf and Madi Maldonado each had two of the Ladies' six hits.

Julia Bork improved to 3-0 after relieving Brooke Bandy in the circle, while Austen Whibley dropped to 5-19.

In the second game, Devin Pieper and Emma Baldwin combined for a two-hit shutout. Holler hit a solo homer in the second to give the Tigers all they would need. Holler reached on a fielder;s choice in the sixth that allowed Shaw to score. Megan Montgomery wrapped up DePauw's scoring in the seventh with a two-run single.

Montgomery led DePauw with two of its seven hits.

Pieper improved to 5-1, while Baldwin collected her sixth save. Keely Sweet dropped to 8-7 with the loss.
