DePauw Splits Doubleheader at Anderson

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Anderson, Ind. - DePauw moved to 18-18 on the season after splitting a doubleheader at Anderson as the Tigers dropped the first game, 7-6, in eight innings and winning the second, 6-3, in a game shortened to six innings due to darkness. Anderson is 17-19 with the split.

In the opener, the Tigers grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first after Lauren Godden reached on an error that allowed Gabby Smart to score and Abey Bass drove home Godden with a single.

Jordyn Fera scored from third in the second after Smart was thrown out attempting to steal to make it 3-0. DePauw extended the lead to 5-0 in the third on Sidney Holler's RBI grounder and Julia Bork's run-scoring single.

Anderson reached the board in the bottom of the third after Shelby Calvert's two-run, inside-the-park homer. The Tigers loaded the bases in the fifth, but couldn't score. The Ravens knotted the score with three in the bottom of the fifth.

The teams headed to extra innings and the Tigers struck first. Mina Shaw was placed on second to start the frame and scored on Kathleen Byers' single. Anderson won the game on doubles from Morgan Moss and pinch-hitter Hadley Decker.

DePauw totaled 15 hits led by two each from Smart, Bork and Shaw. Moss had two of Anderson's eight hits.

Emma Baldwin dropped to 5-8 with the loss, while Mariah Hardin improved to 1-0.

The Tigers did most of their damage in the second game in the third inning as they scored five times in the frame.

Megan Montgomery's two-run homer got things started before Shaw scored on a wild pitch after doubling earlier. Godden's single plated Sarah Beischer who also doubled. Bass grounded out, allowing Godden to score.

Bass reached on a fielder's choice in the fifth that allowed Godden to score and extend the lead to 6-0.

Anderson cut the lead in half in the fifth as Markie Wood scored after a DePauw error before Decker drove in Emily Benefiel with a fielder's choice and Kerrigan McClain plated Decker with a single.

Godden had three of DePauw's 12 hits, while Shaw and Holler each had two. Megan Wade paced Anderson with two of its eight hits.

Baldwin improved to 6-8 after allowing just two hits with seven strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. Heather Feiles dropped to 0-1 with the loss.

DePauw returns to action on Sunday, April 30, with a 1 p.m. North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader. The games were originally scheduled for Saturday, but moved due to the weather forecast. The Tigers' Sunday doubleheader at Case Western Reserve has been canceled.
