Tigers Sweep Denison; Take Over Second Place in NCAC

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw moved into sole possession of second place in the North Coast Athletic Conference after sweeping visiting Denison by scores of 4-3 and 2-0. The Tigers improved to 17-17 overall and 11-3 in the NCAC, while the Big Red dropped to 25-13 overall and 9-5 in the conference.

In the first game, Denison grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fourth as Lauren Secaras doubled with one out, moved to third on Laura Bagan's grounder and scored on Lindsey Clemson's single to short.

The Tigers gained their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth as Jordyn Fera reached on an error and scored on Sidney Holler's two-run homer to left.

Denison's Ricki Asher reached on an error in the fifth and a throwing error on the play allowed a second run to cross giving the Big Red a 3-2 lead.

The Tigers countered in the bottom of the fifth as Julia Bork doubled with one out and Kat Panos drew a walk with Pinch-runner Sarah Beischer advancing to third on a wild pitch on the walk. Andi Sarkisian, who re-entered for Panos stole second and Gabby Smart delivered a two-run double up the middle.

Smart had two of DePauw's five hits, while three different Big Red collected one hit apiece.

Devin Pieper improved to 4-1 with the relief win, while Emma Baldwin collected her fifth save after retiring all six batters she faced.

In the nightcap, Denison loaded the bases in each of the first two innings, but the Tigers got out of both jams.

DePauw then scored the game's only runs in the bottom of the second. Holler, Abey Bass and Mina Shaw each singled with one out before Kathleen Byers was hit by a pitch and Bork singled home the second run.

Six different DePauw players had one hit each, while three Denison players also notched one hit.

Three DePauw pitchers combined for the shutout with Bork improving to 2-0 and Pieper earning her third save. Erin Laswell dropped to 7-4 with the loss.

The Tigers return to action on Thursday, April 27, with a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader at Anderson.
