DePauw Splits Twinbill with Allegheny

Greencastle, Ind. - After blanking Allegheny in game one, DePauw battled back to force extra innings in the nightcap only to have the Gators score three in the 10th for a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader split. DePauw won the opener, 2-0, with Allegheny taking game two, 6-3.

The Tigers moved to 16-17 overall and 9-3 in the NCAC, while the Gators are now 7-24 overall and 2-10 in conference play.

In the first game, the Tigers scored one in the first as Gabby Smart singled and moved to second when Mina Shaw reached on an error. A double steal moved the runners up a base and Jordyn Fera's grounder plated Smart.

DePauw added one more in the third as Smart singled again and stole second before scoring when Shaw reached on an error.

Smart had all three of DePauw's hits, while Taylor Massart collected two of the Gators' five hits. 
Brooke Bandy improved to 6-9 after allowing just four hits in five innings. Emma Baldwin collected her fourth save by allowing just one hit in two innings. Kala Mahen dropped to 4-9 and allowed one earned run on three hits with five strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Allegheny scored three in the third as Paige Blinkiewicz led off with a double and moved to third on Maria DiDonato's sacrifice bunt. 

Jessica Zavolta was hit by a pitch before Massart lined out to right for a sacrifice fly that scored Blinkiewicz. Megan Hazlett was hit by a pitch and Jessica Gordon singled up the middle plating Zavolta. Emily Cramer singled deep in the hole at short which brought home Hazlett.

The Tigers reached the scoreboard in the third as Lauren Godden and Sidney Holler walked with two outs and Megan Montgomery drilled a single to left to load the bases. Kathleen Byers drew a walk which scored Godden.

DePauw closed the gap to 2-1 in the fifth as Fera led off with a single over just beyond first. Fera stole second and scored on Godden's single to right.

The Tigers forced extra innings in the bottom of the seventh as Fera led off with a single to right and moved to third on consecutive ground outs by Godden and Holler. Montgomery then reached on a two-out error that allowed Fera to score.

The teams were scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings before the tiebreaker rule came into play in the 10th. Abrianna Sadler started the Allegheny 10th at second and moved to third when Samantha Valera reached on an error of her bunt. Blinkiewicz followed with a single to right that scored Sadler. Massart and Hazlett then delivered RBI singles to make it 6-3.

Blinkiewicz had two of Allegheny's seven hits, while Fera and Montgomery each had two of DePauw's six hits. The Tigers stranded 14 runners in the loss.

Miranda Arison, who started the game and was later relieved, improved to 2-10. Baldwin dropped to 5-7 with the loss.
