Tigers Complete Perfect Week with Sweep of Obertlin

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw kept pace for first place in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings as the Tigers swept a doubleheader from visiting Oberlin by scores of 8-4 and 6-3.

The Tigers improved to 12-14 overall and 6-0 in the NCAC and extended their win streak to six, while the Yeowomen dropped to 10-22 overall and 1-9 in conference play.

Oberlin grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first and the Tigers tied it in the bottom half of the frame before taking a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the second.

The Yeowomen knotted the score at 4-4 in the fourth on an RBI single from Sami Mericle before Sandra Kibble scored when Kat Ladouceur hit into a double play.

DePauw took the lead for good on Sidney Holler's two-run single in the fifth and added two more in the sixth on Jordan Ferra' bases loaded single that scored two.

Fera had three of the Tigers' 13 hits, while Megan Montgomery and Gabby Smart added two each. Five different Oberlin players collected one hit each.

Devin Pieper picked up the relief win to move to 2-1, while Emma Baldwin collected her third save with two innings of hitless relief including four strikeouts and no walks.  Kibble dropped to 3-8.

As in the first game, each team scored twice in the first in game two, but DePauw struck for three in the bottom of the second as Gabby Smart led off with a homer and Abey Bass scored from third on an errant throw during a rundown. Andi Sarkisan made it 5-2 after scoring on a wild pitch.

Oberlin closed the gap to 5-3 in the third as Tori Poplaski plated Dana Rae Goldstein with a single to left.

The Tigers' final run came in the fifth when Lauren Godden reached on an error that allowed Liz Getz to score.

Kathleen Byers had two of DePauw's seven hits, while Poplaski had two of the Yeowomen's four.

Baldwin picked up the win after allowing one hits and striking out seven in four innings of relief work. Hannah Rasmussen dropped to 2-1 with the loss.

DePauw hosts Hiram on Tuesday, April 18, in a 4 p.m. doubleheader.
