DePauw Stays Unbeaten in NCAC Play after Sweeping Battling Bishops

Delaware, Ohio - DePauw stayed perfect in North Coast Athletic Conference play after sweeping Ohio Wesleyan by identical 7-4 scores. The Tigers improved to 10-14 overall and 4-0 in the NCAC, while the Battling Bishops dropped to 8-16 overall and 3-5 in conference play.

In the opener, Gabby Smart, Mina Shaw and Lauren Godden all singled in the first before Sidney Holler was hit by a pitch allowing Smart to score. Megan Montgomery reached on a fielder's choice that plated Shaw.

The Battling Bishops evened the score in the bottom of the first on Kennedy Sattler's two-run single and grabbed a 4-2 lead in the second on Kayla Richard's two-run double.

The Tigers added three in the third after Abey Bass reached on an error allowing Alyssa Nowak to score from third. Kathleen Byers then knocked in a pair with a single. Liz Getz wrapped up the scoring in the fifth with a two-run single.

Lauren Godden led DePauw with two of its nine hits, while Amanda Boyle had two of Ohio Wesleyan's six hits.

Brooke Bandy improved to 4-8 after striking out six with no walks in 4 1/3 innings. Devin Pieper recorded her second save with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Bianca Sibilly dropped to 4-8 with the loss.

In the nightcap, DePauw gained a 1-0 lead in the first on Godden's single that score Getz who had doubled. 

Ohio Wesleyan gained the lead in the bottom of the frame after Richard's two-run single.

Emma Baldwin's single in the second scored Montgomery and evened the score before DePauw took a 5-2 lead in the third as Nowak scored on a wild pitch before Julia Bork singled home Sarah Beischer and Bass reached on a fielder's choice that scored Montgomery.

Montgomery's single in the fourth scored Shaw and extended the Tigers' lead to 6-2 and Bass' single in the sixth brought home Holler.

The Battling Bishops added single runs in the sixth and seventh. Taylor Dickson's grounder in the sixth scored Ashley Day and Megan Kuether scored from third on an error after Becky Poling flied out.

Montgomery had three of the Tigers' 13 hits, while Godden and Baldwin had two each. Boyle had two of Ohio Wesleyan's five hits.

Baldwin improved to 4-5 with the complete game victory. Emily VanDermark dropped to 4-5.

The Tigers host Oberlin on Saturday, April 15, in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
