Tigers Drop Twinbill at #3 East Texas Baptist

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Marshall, Texas - On the first of two days of facing two of the top three ranked teams in Division III, DePauw dropped a doubleheader at third-ranked East Texas Baptist by scores of 2-1 and 6-2. The Tigers slipped to 1-5 with the losses, while the Texas-based Tigers improved to 17-2.

In the opener, the hosts took a 1-0 lead in the first as Lindsey Vasquez led off with a walk and stole second before moving to third on Linzie Lewis' grounder and scoring on Jayme Perez's sacrifice fly.

DePauw evened the score in the second as Lauren Godden led off with a double to right center. Pinch-runner Sarah Beischer entered as a pinch-runner and moved to third on Sidney Holler's grounder. Abey Bass followed with a bunt single that plated Beischer.

East Texas Baptist scored the game winner in the bottom of the second as Kaitlyn Hollingshead doubled home Morgan Arst who had earlier reached on a fielder's choice.

DePauw's next best scoring chance came in the sixth when Godden, Bass and Kat Panos each singled but Emma Baldwin's ground out ended the threat.

Godden and Bass each had two of DePauw's seven hits, while Hollingshead had two of ETBU's eight hits.

Rocki Tello moved to 8-1 with the win in the circle for ETBU with Perez collecting her second save. Brooke Bandy dropped to 0-3 with the loss.

In the nightcap, the hosts again grabbed an early lead as Lacey Lindsey's first-inning sacrifice fly scored Vasquez. Perez clubbed a solo homer in the third to make it 2-0.

DePauw matched those two runs in the fourth as Liz Getz and Megan Montgomery each had bases loaded RBI singles.

ETBU put the game away with two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings.

Montgomery, Gabby Smart and Holler each had two of DePauw's eight hits, while Vasquez, Lewis and Perez each collected two of ETBU's 10 hits.

Jordan Anderson moved to 5-0, while Devin Pieper slipped to 1-1 after pitching three innings in relief of starter Julia Bork.

DePauw returns to action tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. CDT when it travels to top-ranked Texas-Tyler for a doubleheader.
