Greencastle, Ind. – The DePauw women's track team finished second in the 2017 DePauw Indoor Classic, finishing 11 points behind Bellarmine and earning two individual wins in the process.
The top four teams fought for positioning throughout the meet. Bellarmine totaled 91 points to DePauw's 80. Southern Indiana finished third at 77 and Centre was fourth with 75.
Two senior distance runners gave DePauw a boost as Lois Miller won in the 5000-meter run and Claudia Monnett won in the one-mile run.
Miller ran a 19:18.65 and finished 12 seconds ahead of second place. The one-mile race was closer as Monnett's time of 5:07.01 edged out the 5:08.53 second place time of Centre's Annie Rodenfels.
Elsewhere, senior Amanda Weber was second in the 200-meter dash (27.74), and sophomore Kaitlyn Daanen recorded a third place finish in the 60-meter dash (8.10). Weber was also third in the long jump, reaching 4.91 meters. Freshman Emily Wilson had a high jump of 1.57 meters to place second.
This was the final home indoor meet of the season for the Tigers. They compete in the Fred Wilt Invitational next Saturday before wrapping up the indoor season at the NCAC Indoor Championships at Oberlin the weekend of March 3.
