Colonels and Tigers Play it Close but Tigers Fall 3-1

Box Score

Greencastle, Ind. -- Centre defeated DePauw 3-1 on Monday in a contest that was separated by one goal for the majority of the time.

The Colonels got off to a fast start when Meghan Paynter scored right at the fourth minute, sending a ball from about 25 yards out and into the back of the net. The two teams then took that score into halftime.

In the 59th minute Centre made it 2-0 when a handball in the box gave Keeghan Francis a penalty kick, which she was successful on. However, that 2-0 score lasted just three minutes when Bailey Ehrens scored her third goal of the year from an assist by Alex Berkley.

DePauw continued their final push, controlling the majority of possession towards the end of the game. Yet, Centre capitalized on one offensive possession in the 86th minute when Kristin Dean scored from in front of the net via an assist from Francis.

Goalie Mia Manney made two saves for the Tigers in the loss. Opposing keeper Sarah Youkilis made three saves for the Colonels.

DePauw drops to 2-8, while Centre improves to 7-3-2. The Tigers will return to action Saturday when they travel to Denison.

I chose DePauw because it is an academic focused institution. Everyone was very friendly when I visited, I loved that I can continue to play soccer, and the campus is beautiful.
