Box Score Danville, Ky. – The DePauw field hockey team played the No. 14 team in Christopher Newport evenly for almost 70 full minutes on Sunday, but the Captains' tallied a late goal to take a 2-1 win over the Tigers.
Abby Cryts scored with a little over three minutes remaining in regulation in what ended up being the game-winner for the Captains, who moves to 4-0 on the season.
DePauw fell behind at the 14th minute via a goal from Kana Hashigami and faced a 1-0 deficit at halftime.
But in the 42nd minute, sophomore Corina Bourantas scored her second goal of the season and tied the game at 1-1. Kate Milner found her for the assist.
In the 66th minute, Cryts hit her game-winner following a penalty corner. The Tigers got one last shot attempt a minute later, but Milner's shot was saved in net by Christopher Newport goalie Bailey Lien.
Lien made five saves to Sarah Guendert's seven. Christopher Newport also outshot the Tigers 13-6, but the Tigers were efficient with all of their shots on goal.
The Captains took four penalty corners to DePauw's 3, and both teams committed 17 fouls.
DePauw drops to 3-2 on the year and opens NCAC play next Saturday when they travel to Wooster.
