Godden Clubs Three Homers in DePauw's Sweep

Greencastle, Ind. - Lauren Godden hit three homers on the day including two in the nightcap as DePauw swept Allegheny by scores of 10-2 and 7-3. The Tigers moved into sole possession of first in the North Coast Athletic Conference at 6-0, while improving to 15-12 overall. The Gators dropped to 6-12 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

In the opener, DePauw got out to a quick 2-0 lead as Sammi Bell singled and Godden drove her in with a two-out homer to left center. The lead reached 5-0 in the third as Haleigh Chasteen drove in one with a single before Sidney Holler plated a pair with a double to right.

The Gators got one back in the third after Alexis Ryan singled with two outs and Paige Blinkiewicz followed with a triple. 

In the DePauw fourth, Linsey Button doubled home Gabby Smart before Bell scored on a passed ball. Godden's single to left scored Button and gave the Tigers an 8-1 lead.

Ryan doubled with one out in the fifth and scored on Taylor Massart's single.

The Tigers scored the final two in the sixth as Chasteen's bases loaded grounder drove in Smart before Button came home when Sarkisian reached on an error.

Brooke Bandy retired the Gators in order in the sixth and the game ended due to the eight-run rule.

Bell and Button each had three of DePauw's 12 hits with Godden and Holler each adding two. Ryan and Hailey Marthaler each had two of the Gators' six hits.

Bandy improved to 5-4 in the circle for the Tigers with six strikeouts, while Miranda Arison dropped to 3-5.

Game two was scoreless for three innings before Godden led off the fourth with a homer down the left field line. Chasteen then singled and pinch-runner Sarah Beischer moved to second on Liz Getz's grounder. Holler's single moved Beischer to third and Autumn Ratliff, who ran for Holler, stole second. Ashlee Gibson's bunt scored Beischer and pinch-hitter Grace Hendrickson's single brought home Ratliff and gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

The Gators reached the board in the fourth on Blinkiewicz's leadoff homer. They then knotted the score at 3-3 in the sixth on RBI singles from Jessica Zavolta and Jessica Valerino.

The tie was short-lived as Kathleen Byers and Bell walked before Button followed with a two-run double to center. Godden then followed with another homer down the left field line.

Button, Godden and Megan Montgomery each had two of DePauw's 12 hits, while five different Gators had one hit apiece.

Emma Baldwin moved to 6-7 in the circle for DePauw as she struck out 10 in 6 1/3 innings. Allison Cabo dropped to 3-5 with the loss.

DePauw travels to Oberlin tomorrow for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
