Tigers Sweep Ravens; Move Above .500

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Greencastle, Ind. - With a doubleheader sweep of visiting Anderson by scores of 5-4 and 6-1, DePauw has now won eight of its last nine games and moved above the .500 mark for the first time this season. The Tigers are now 13-12, while the Ravens slipped to 13-10.

In the opener, DePauw grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first as Sammi Bell walked and moved to second and third on wild pitches before scoring when Linsey Button reached on a sacrifice bunt as the play at the plate was late. Pinch-runner Sarah Beischer advanced to second on an error as she was attempting to steal. Lauren Godden followed with a single to left to make it 2-0.

Anderson cut the lead in half in the third when Morgan Burke doubled and moved to third on a wild pitch. Brynn Gooding's single plated Burke.

The Ravens took the lead in the fourth as Taylar Kelso and Blake Thomas led off with back-to-back doubles before Sami Frazier was intentionally walked. Emma Baldwin then relieved Brooke Bandy in the circle for the Tigers and Samantha Ausmus reached on a wide throw of her sacrifice bunt effort that allowed Thomas to score and pinch-runner Tori Smith to move to third. Burke's bunt scored Smith and gave Anderson a 4-2 lead.

DePauw countered with one in the fourth as Liz Getz singled with two outs and stole second. She moved to third on Kat Panos' single and scored when pinch-hitter Bekka Roberts reached on an error.

The Tigers evened the score in the sixth as Haleigh Chasteen singled and pinch-runner Andi Sarkisian moved to second on Sidney Holler's sacrifice bunt. Getz singled Sarkisian to third and then stole second before Panos loaded the bases with a walk. DePauw evened the score when Julia Waggoner reached on a fielder's choice that forced Getz at third and scored Sarkisian.

The game went to extra innings and Chasteen was placed on second in the bottom of the eighth as the tiebreaker rule was invoked. Chasteen moved to third on a wild pitch before Holler and Getz were intentionally walked to load the bases. Panos then lifted a bloop single down the right field line just beyond first base which scored Chasteen with the winning run.

Getz and Panos each had two of DePauw's seven hits, while Thomas had two of Anderson's five. Baldwin improved to 5-7 with five innings of hitless relief with seven strikeouts. Hannah Belvo suffered the loss.

In the nightcap, Anderson took a 1-0 lead in the second as Kelso reached on a wild pitch after striking out. She then stole second and moved to third on Megan Wade's grounder before scoring on a wild pitch.

DePauw evened the count in the third as Holler reached second on an error. Beischer entered as a pinch-runner and moved to third when Panos grounded out and later scored on a wild throw on a pickoff attempt.

Chasteen's leadoff homer in the fifth gave DePauw a 2-1 lead and the Tigers put the game away with four in the sixth. Bell singled and moved to second when Button walked. Chasteen drew a two-out walk that loaded the bases and Smart reached an error before Kathleen Byers delivered a two-run single to left center.

Four Tigers collected one hit apiece, while three different Ravens had one each. Ashlee Gibson moved to 4-1 after allowing just three hits with no earned runs, while Frazier dropped to 3-4 with the loss.

DePauw returns to action on Saturday, April 16, when it travels to Allegheny for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
