A DePauw outfield error with the bases loaded in the bottom of the second allowed Whittier to cut the lead in half. The Poets took the lead in the third as Kaitlin Garza singled and scored on an outfield error on Ahern's double down the left field line. Mega Heal's sacrifice fly made it 3-2.

Bell led off the DePauw fourth with a walk and moved to second on Gibson's grounder before scoring on Panos' single.

The score remained 3-3 until the bottom of the sixth when the Poets struck for six unearned runs capped by Sarah Crawford's grand slam.

Panos had three of DePauw's six hits, while Garza, Crawford and Natalia Sanchez each collected two for Whittier.
