Box Score 2 Orange, Calif. - Backed by Emma Baldwin's solid pitching in game one and the best offensive output in the nightcap, DePauw swept a doubleheader at Chapman by scores of 2-1 and 13-4. The Tigers improved to 4-7, while the Panthers dropped to 8-10.
In the opener, DePauw scored twice in the second as Lauren Godden led off with a single and pinch-runner Andi Sarkisian moved to second on Haleigh Chasteen's sacrifice bunt. Ashlee Gibson then drilled a two-run homer down the left field line.
Chapman's lone run crossed in the bottom of the third when Elizabeth Runge led off with a homer to left.
Four different Tigers had one hit each, while four different Panthers collected one hit apiece.
Emma Baldwin improved to 2-3 after striking out 12 and walking two. Samantha Whalen dropped to 3-2 with the loss.
In the nightcap, DePauw jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first as Rachael Honaker singled and moved to third when Linsey Button singled and advanced to second on the throw. Godden followed with a two-run double to right center. Gibson singled home Godden and moved to second on the throw. Gibson then stole third and came home on the play.
The Tigers expanded the lead to 7-0 in the second as Kathleen Byers walked and pinch-runner Autumn Ratliff moved to second on Gabby Smart's infield single. Sammi Bell's sacrifice bunt advanced the runners and Honaker followed with a two-run double to right center. Later in the inning, Godden singled home Sarkisian.
Amber Perez put Chapman on the board with a third-inning single that plated Runge. The Panthers added three more in the fourth as Lisa Perez led off with a triple and scored on Analisa Ruff's double. Kristen Yee singled and moved to second on the throw before Ruff scored on a DePauw throwing error. Runge's double brought home Yee and trimmed DePauw's lead to 7-4.
DePauw countered that with four in the fifth as Button reached on an error and scored on Godden's triple. Chasteen followed with a triple that scored Godden and came home on Liz Getz's single. Getz stole second, moved to third on Megan Montgomery's grounder and scored on an error on the play.
The Tigers added two more in the sixth and held Chapman scoreless in the bottom of the frame to end the game due to the eight-run rule.
Godden had three of DePauw's 12 hits, while Honaker, Chasteen and Smart added two apiece. Runge had two of Chapman's seven hits.
Brooke Bandy improved to 2-3 with five strikeouts and two walks, while Whalen dropped to 3-3.
DePauw travels to Whittier tomorrow for a Noon PDT doubleheader.
