DePauw Splits Doubleheader at Franklin

Franklin, Ind. - After dropping the first game of a doubleheader at Franklin by a 6-1 score, DePauw rebounded with a 10-4 win in the nightcap for a split. The Tigers moved to 2-7, while the Grizzlies are now 7-5.

In the first game, Franklin took a 1-0 lead in the second before adding four more in the fourth and one in the sixth. DePauw's lone run was in the seventh as Haleigh Chasteen led off with a double and pinch-runner Morgan Pigusch moved to third on Grace Hendrickson's grounder and scored on Gabby Smart's single.

Chasteen had two of DePauw's six hits, while Jeana Gregory had three of Franklin's 10 hits and Megan Lalioff and Grace Paszek each had two.

Brooke Bandy suffered the loss and dropped to 1-3, while Olivia Paszek improved to 6-1.

In the second game, DePauw jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Sammi Bell led off with a single and later scored when Linsey Button reached on an error. Button came home on Chasteen's double.

The Tigers extended the lead to 6-0 with four runs in the third. Bell was hit by a pitch before Liz Getz singled. A wild pitch allowed the runners to advance one base and Button's sacrifice bunt plated Bell. Lauren Godden's single scored Getz. Andi Sarkisian pinch ran for Godden and stole second before moving to third on a wild pitch. She scored when Rachael Honaker on a fielder's choice. After Smart walked, Honaker scored on a double steal.

DePauw extended its lead to 8-0 in the fourth when Bell singled and Button followed with a two-run homer. 

Franklin trimmed the lead to 8-4 in the fifth on an RBI single from Lalioff and Savannah Blevins' three-run homer.

The Tigers added single runs in the sixth and seventh. Bell doubled and scored on Getz's triple in the sixth while Katerina Panos came home on a double play in the seventh.

DePauw pounded out 12 hits in the win led by Bell's three and two each from Getz, Godden and Chasteen. Franklin totaled eight hits with Blevins and Taylor Bounin collecting two each.

Emma Baldwin improved to 3-1 with the win and had four strikeouts with no walks. Shelby Mager dropped to 0-1 with the loss.

DePauw returns to action with a doubleheader at Chapman on March 19.
