Atlanta, Ga. - Third-ranked DePauw dropped to 1-5 on the season after falling to Averett, 4-2, and then to 18th-ranked Emory, 6-1. Both games were played at Emory.

In the first game against Averett, the Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the first as Jessica Long led off with a walk, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. After Samantha Hall walked and stole second, Long came home on a throw on the play.

DePauw knotted the score at 1-1 in the second when Linsey Button led off with a single and pinch-runner Sarah Beischer moved to second on Lauren Godden's single. Rachael Honaker's grounder moved the runners up and Megan Montgomery's one-out bunt scored Beischer.

The Cougars (0-1) added two more in the third on Long's single and Taylor Dix's sacrifice fly.

Gabby Smart's double in the fifth plated Montgomery, who led off the frame with a single, and cut the Averett lead to 3-2. The Cougars added an unearned, insurance run in the bottom of the fifth. The Tigers had one runner in scoring position in both the sixth and seventh innings, but couldn't push them across.

Each team had six hits with Godden leading DePauw with two, while Long and Taylor Hodges each had two for Averett. 

Mary Beth Smith collected the complete game win with six strikeouts, while Ashlee Gibson suffered the loss. 

In the Tigers' second game, Emory took a 2-0 lead in the third when Melody Carter tripled home Raygan Greer and scored on Alyssa Pollard's sacrifice fly.

Taylor Forte's fourth-inning double scored Sam Vincent to make it 3-0 before Hannah Sendel hammered a three-run homer in the sixth.

The Tigers did load the bases in the fifth with two outs, but couldn't score.

DePauw's lone run came in the seventh as Katerina Panos drew a one-out walk and stole second. She then scored on Smart's two-out double to left center.

Four Tigers collected one hit each, while seven different Eagles had one apiece.

Brooke Bandy dropped to 1-2 in relief of Emma Baldwin, while Brittany File moved to 4-0 for the 5-0 Eagles. Toko Miller collected her first save.

The Tigers face Emory tomorrow at 10 a.m. and Averett at Noon.
