Tigers Drop Twinbill at Berry

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Rome, Ga. - The third-ranked Tigers traveled to Berry and dropped both games of a doubleheader with the Vikings. Berry won the first game, 6-2, and then took the nightcap, 14-4, in five innings. Berry is now 3-1, while DePauw is 1-3.

In the opener, the Tigers struck first with Sammi Bell leading off with a double and scoring on Haleigh Chasteen's double. Berry countered in the bottom of the frame as Kylie Aiken drove in Sarah Moore and Brittany Ferrell with a double to left center.

Berry added one in the second when Ally Claytor's grounder plated Shaharah Boswell. DePauw added one in the fourth as Gabby Smart singled in Bell who doubled earlier in the inning.

The Vikings' Kaitlin Seger led off the sixth with a homer to left center and Berry added two more in the inning when Moore reached on a fielder's choice.

Five of the Tigers' six hits came from the top three in the lineup with Bell and Smart each collecting two. Aiken had two of Berry's six hits.

Emma Baldwin dropped to 0-2 after going three innings, while Kassie Howard moved to 2-0 and struck out seven.

In game two, DePauw again took an early lead as Linsey Button reached on an error, allowing Andi Sarkisian to score. Sarkisian reached on an error earlier in the inning.

Berry sent 15 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first and nine crossed the plate.

The Tigers closed the gap in the second as Smart reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Sidney Holler to score when a throwing error was committed on the play. Bell's two-run single brought home Sarkisian and Smart and made it 9-4.

Berry scored two in the third and three in the fourth to extend the lead to 14-4. The Tigers put two on in the fifth, but couldn't cross the plate and the game ended due to the eight-run rule.

Laura Godden had two of DePauw's three hits, while Moore, Marie Collop and Seger each had two of the Vikings' 12 hits.

Brooke Bandy suffered the loss after tossing 1/3 of an inning and dropped to 1-1. Howard picked up the win in relief and improved to 3-0.
