Newlon's 1,650 Free Pool Record and 'B' Cut Paces Tigers on Opening Day of Phoenix Fall Classic

Chicago, Ill. - Paced by a record-setting performance by Angela Newlon, DePauw totaled 93 points and is in fourth after the first day of the Phoenix Fall Classic. Chicago leads with 114 followed by William Jewell with 104 and Olivet Nazarene with 94.

Newlon won the 1,650-yard freestyle in 16:52.33 and set a University of Chicago pool record while establishing an NCAA "B" cut.

The Tigers' 200 free relay of Olivia Neff, Ellen Riehle, Kirsten Olson and Mary Woods was fourth in 1:38.01, while the 400 medley relay of Annie Graves, Woods, Newlon and Olson was third in 3:57.66.

The second day of competition gets underway Saturday morning.
