Little Giants Defeat Tigers for First Time in 17 Years

Box Score

Crawfordsville, Ind. – A line drive of a shot by Alexiz Arellano in the 32nd minute was all Wabash needed to defeat the DePauw men's soccer team for the first time since 1999.

DePauw outshot Wabash 13-8 in the 1-0 contest but never got too great of a look at the net, putting just two shots on goal. They took nine corners, including a couple in the final seconds, but nothing materialized of those either.

Both teams played to the rigor as one would expect in the classic DePauw-Wabash rivalry with 30 combined fouls and one yellow card on the Wabash side. Despite the loss, DePauw still leads the series 37-13-3, which dates back to 1967.

It was a crucial game for both teams, with five teams still in the picture of the four-team NCAC tournament. Wabash, who entered in second place, moves to 11-4-2 overall and 6-1-1 in the NCAC. DePauw, who entered in fourth place, now sits at 10-4-2 and 5-3.

First place Kenyon defeated fifth-place Ohio Wesleyan 2-0 earlier in the day, giving the Tigers a little bit of a cushion as they'll host Allegheny in their home and season finale on Saturday in a win-and-in game.
