Tigers fail to capture win at Kenyon

Box Score

Gambier, Ohio -- A late, game-deciding run from Kenyon sent the DePauw men's basketball team to its second straight North Coast Athletic Conference loss on Saturday, 82-75.

The Tigers held a 66-65 lead before a 3-pointer from Alexander Powell started a 9-0 run for Kenyon that gave them the lead for good. The Tigers led with three minutes remaining in the game to trail by four points 20 seconds later.

After the 3-pointer from Powell, DePauw turned it over on their next two possessions, which resulted in free throws and fast break points. A miss on DePauw's next possession led to a quick slam dunk by Brien Comey on the other end, as Kenyon turned the game around leading 74-66 with 1:52 remaining.

DePauw drops to 6-7 overall and 2-4 in the NCAC, while Kenyon improves to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in the NCAC.

Kenyon's Tim Connolly scored a game-high 27 points on 6-of-10 shooting and by converting 14-of-17 free throws. Luke Lattner led the Tigers with 26 points on 8-of-17 shooting, while going a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe.

Lattner was the only Tiger in double figures. Adam Botts scored eight points and Bradley Fey and Cris Burrough each contributed six.

The Tigers shot 38 percent (27-of-71) from the floor, taking more than 20 shots than Kenyon, but the Lords shot 56 percent on 27-of-48 attempts.

Kenyon also outshot DePauw from beyond the arc. DePauw was 30 percent (8-of-27) from 3-point range, and Kenyon shot 42 percent (5-of-12).

The Tigers had one of their better days at the free throw line, going 13-of-14 (93 percent), but put Kenyon on the line 34 times (23-of-34) as the Lords connected on 68 percent of their attempts.

DePauw outrebounded the Lords 36-35 and won the advantage in second change points, 11-7, and bench points 35-24. However, the Lords controlled the points in the paint, 38-32.

The lead changed 11 times, and the game was tied nine times.

The men return to action 6 p.m. Wednesday when they play first in a men/women doubleheader against Wittenberg at home.
