Box Score Greencastle, Ind. – The DePauw men's basketball team gave eighth-ranked Ohio Wesleyan 40 minutes of back-and-forth basketball, but in the end, the Battling Bishops held on for a 74-67 win.
The Tigers opened with a 5-0 run in a game that saw 10 lead changes and six ties. However, their lead at 31-30 in the first half was their last.
The teams went on to tie at 33, 41 and finally 63 with 4:55 remaining in the game. Lattner made it a 68-67 game with 1:46 left, but those would be the final points DePauw would score as Ohio Wesleyan closed the game with a 6-0 run.
Lattner led the Tigers with 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting. He also pulled down five rebounds.
Seth Clark led the Battling Bishops with 28 points. He was 9-of-16 for the game and 6-of-12 from beyond the arc.
Ohio Wesleyan lived behind the 3-point line, shooting 32 percent on 12-of-37 shooting. Overall, they shot 34 percent from the field (22-of-64).
DePauw, on the other hand, shot 41 percent (25-of-61) and 32 percent from beyond the arc (8-of-25). It was an improvement from last time out when they shot below 30 percent from both the field and from 3-point range.
Turnovers also played a key factor in the loss as Ohio Wesleyan scored 20 points off of DePauw's 17 turnovers. The Tigers only scored three off Ohio Wesleyan's five.
The Battling Bishops were also able to go to the free throw line more often, hitting 18-of-23 shots (78 percent) to DePauw's 9-of-13 (69 percent).
Other notables from DePauw were Mason Hankins' 10 points and five rebounds and Jack VandeMerkt's team-leading nine rebounds.
Ohio Wesleyan's Ben Simpson finished with the game's only double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
The loss is DePauw's fourth consecutive as they drop to 6-9 overall and 2-7 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Ohio Wesleyan stays atop the conference with a 7-1 record. They are 14-1 overall.
The Tigers are back in action Wednesday January 20, when they travel to Wabash for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
