Tigers suffer overtime loss in opener

Fredericksburg Va. – DePauw pushed Mary Washington to their limits Saturday morning but two late unanswered goals soured the Tigers' opening game of the 2015 season. DePauw lost 2-1 in overtime.

The Tigers (0-1) and Eagles (2-0) played to a scoreless tie at halftime until DePauw sophomore Paige Berliner scored at the 53:22 mark. The Eagles tied the game at 68:42 with a goal from Kathleen Namey and put the game away at the 82:17 mark as Allegra Massey-Elim scored the overtime and winning goal.

Mary Washington controlled possession for the majority of the game. They took 25 shots, 19 on goal, while DePauw took only six shots. Berliner and Reilly Bruce each took three shots for the Tigers.

Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Guendert took the loss after a busy day in the net. She recorded 17 saves altogether.

The Eagles took twice as many corners (12-6) and committed more fouls (31-25) than the Tigers.

The Tigers return to Fredericksburg on Sunday to play St. Mary's (Md.).
