Tigers suffer first loss of season

Box Score

Greecastle, Ind. -- An own goal from the DePauw backfield gave Rose-Hulman a 3-2 overtime win over the Tigers on Wednesday.

After playing to a 2-2 tie in the first 90 minutes, Rose-Hulman put the ball deep into DePauw territory where a Tiger inadvertently kicked the ball into the back of the goal and out of the reach of goalkeeper Chris Yount.

It was an even contest throughout aside from a two-minute span in the first half where Rose-Hulman scored two consecutive goals (one from Alex Jansen and the other from Ben Lyon). That put them ahead 2-1 going into the half after Zach Hoffman's early goal for the Tigers (6:19).

EJ Moore tied it for the Tigers at the 50:35 off a direct free kick near the top of the box. Rose-Hulman was called for a foul against Mitch Reavis which resulted in the free kick.

Both teams committed seven fouls, while DePauw was issued two yellow cards to Rose-Hulman's one. DePauw outshot Rose-Hulman 12-9 and won the corner advantage 9-4.

Yount made one save and took his first loss of year. He is now 4-1-1.

Michael Lawrence won for Rose-Hulman. He moves to 4-1.

The Tigers entered the game ranked for the first time by D3soccer.com at No. 22. They return to action Saturday when they host Oberlin.
