Box Score 2 Hiram, Ohio - Seventh-inning rallies were the order of the day as DePauw scored three in the final frame of game one to take a 6-4 win at Hiram and the Terriers brought home four in the final inning of game two for an 8-7 win over the Tigers.
With the split, DePauw moved to 14-9 overall and 5-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. The Terriers are now 4-12 overall and 1-1 in the NCAC.
In the opener, Hiram took a 1-0 lead in the third when Brittany Zajac doubled home Dana Perrotta.
The Tigers struck for two in the fourth when Taylor Golden's sacrifice fly scored both Linsey Button and Mogran McCord. DePauw made it 3-1 in the fifth as Sammi Bell walked and stole second before scoring when Elizabeth Getz reached on an error.
Hiram scored three in the bottom of the sixth as Danielle Latine reached on a fielder's choice with a DePauw error on the play allowing Nicole Hoy to score. Miranda Wright came through with a two-out, two-run single with the based loaded to give the Terriers a 4-3 lead.
Bell led off the seventh with a single and moved to second on Getz's grounder. Lauren Godden then tied the game with a single that scored Bell. Alli Dennie followed with a single that moved Lauren Godden to third. Denny was able to move up to second on the throw and Golden followed with a single up the middle that scored Godden and Dennie.
DePauw starter Kahla Nolan retired the side in order in the bottom of the seventh including a pair of strikeouts to end the game.
Button, Godden and Dennie each had two of DePauw's 10 hits, while Jessica Wahl, Wright and Hoy each had two of Hiram's eight hits.
Nolan improved to 6-6 after allowing just one earned run and striking out nine. Meghan Garland dropped to 0-7 with the loss.
In game two, Button's two-run homer and Gabby Smart's RBI double gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead in the first. In the second, the Tigers loaded the bases and scored a pair when Smart reached on a two-out error.
The Terriers added one in the bottom of the second as Latine singled with two outs and scored on Sarah Brady's double. Button struck again with a solo homer to lead off the fourth. Beth Chelmowski followed with a double and came home on Dennie's single to make it 7-1.
Hiram's comeback started in the fifth when it scored three as Wright's grounder plated Wahl and Garland's double scored Perrotta and Hoy. Kali Stover and Hoy singled to start the seventh before Garland singled home Emily Syrjala who ran for Stover.
Emma Baldwin, who started the game for DePauw and pitched the first four innings, came back in to strike out Janie Linger, but Latine followed with a two-run double to tie the game at 7-7. Brady struck out and the Tigers' intentionally walked Wahl, but Perrotta reached on an error that allowed pinch-runner Hayley Bukala to score the winning run.
DePauw totaled 14 hits paced by Button's three and two from Godden. Button tied the school's single-game record with a pair of homers. In all, 11 different DePauw players had at least one hit. Hiram finished with 10 hits as Garland, Latine and Brady each had two.
Baldwin dropped to 5-3 with the loss while striking out 10 in 4 2/3 innings. Garland improved to 1-7.
The Tigers travel to Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday, April 8, for a 3:30 p.m. NCAC doubleheader.
