Box Score 2 Springfield, Ohio - DePauw rallied twice from late-game deficits and swept both ends of a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader at Wittenberg by identical 4-3 scores. With the wins, DePauw improved to 23-12 overall and 12-2 in the NCAC. The Tigers clinched at least a share of their third straight NCAC title. Wittenberg dropped to 16-14 overall and 9-5 in the conference.
In the opener, the teams went hitless through three innings before DePauw struck first. Taylor Golden's single scored pinch-runner Beth Chelmowski.
Wittenberg took the lead in the bottom of the inning as Abby Baker led off with a single and Casey Hobbs folllowed with a homer to left center.
In the seventh, Jennifer Ridge led off with a single and stole second. After Sammi Bell walked, Elizabeth Getz reached on a fielder's choice that forced Ridge at third. K.J. Holden then hit what should have been the game's final out, but the Wittenberg right fielder dropped the ball and Bell scored on the play.
DePauw took the lead in the ninth as Julia Waggoner led off with a bunt single and moved to second on Bell's sacrifice bunt. Getz then reached on an infield single before Holden advanced both with a sacrifice bunt. Lauren Godden delivered a two-run double to left.
Baker led off the Wittenberg ninth with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on Hobbs' grounder. A wild pitch allowed Baker to score, but the Tigers' Kahla Nolan struck out the last two batters.
Waggoner had two of DePauw's six hits, while Baker had two of Wittenberg's four.
Nolan improved to 11-7 after striking out 10 and walking just one, while Chelsea Zang dropped to 10-6.
In the nightcap, DePauw took a 2-0 lead in the third as Ridge walked and stole second before moving to third on a wild pitch. Bell's sacrifice fly plated Ridge. Getz then singled and stole second before Kathleen Byers drove her home with a single.
All of Wittenberg's runs came in the bottom of the third as Shannon Lance was hit by a pitch and stole second before Baker homered to center. Hobbs then hit a solo homer to left.
The Tigers knotted the score at 3-3 in the sixth as Golden singled and pinch-runner Morgan McCord stole second, advanced to third on a bad throw from the catcher and then scored on a throwing error from the outfield.
DePauw's game-winning run crossed in the seventh as Getz was hit by a pitch and moved to second when Byers reached on an error. Godden singled to load the bases and Golden drove in Getz with a sacrifice fly to center.
Godden had three of DePauw's eight hits, while six different Wittenberg batters collected one hit apiece.
Emma Baldwin improved to 10-4 after striking out 11 and Zang dropped to 10-7.
DePauw hosts Woooster at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, in the NCAC regular season finale.
