Box Score 2 Greencastle, Ind. - The top three hitters in the DePauw lineup went 8-for-11 in game two as DePauw topped Allegheny 7-3 after dropping game one by a 1-0 count in nine innings.
With the split, DePauw moved to 21-12 overall and 10-2 in the North Coast Athletic Confernce, while the Gators are now 10-10 overall and 6-4 in conference play.
Kahla Nolan and Caitlin Nealer are two of thew winningest pitchers in NCAC history and matched up in a duel that was scoreless for eight innings.
In the first eight frames, Allegheny had just four base runners and three hits including two in the opening inning. Nolan retired 11 straight Gators at one points. Five Tigers reached base in the first eight innings with three coming on hits, but no one advanced beyone second base.
Alexis Ryan led off the Allegheny ninth with a single to right center and stole second. Nealer beat out a bunt with Ryan moving to third. Sadie Sturart reached on a fielder's choice that forced Nealer at second, but allowed Ryan to score.
In the bottom of the ninth, Linsey Button singled with one out and moved to second on Morgan McCord's sacrifice bunt. Button moved to third on a wild pitch, but the Tigers grounded out to end the game.
Button had two of DePauw's four hits, while Nealer and Stuart each had two of Allegheny's five hits.
Nealer improved to 8-4 with the win, while Nolan's seven-game win streak came to an end as she dropped to 10-7.
Allegheny put a runner on third in the opening inning of the nightcap, but Belle Mazunik was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a wild pitch.
Nealer started game two for the Gators and Sammi Bell led of with a solor homer to right center. Elizabeth Getz singled, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. Button's single plated Getz and gave DePauw a 2-0 lead.
in the third, Bell, Getz and Button hit consecutive doubles to push the lead to 4-0.
DePauw pitcher Emma Baldwin retired 14 straight before Jessica Zavolta singled with one out in the sixth. Mazunik reaached on an error before Ryan reached on a fielder's choice when Baldwin's throw to force pinch-runner Stella Pratt at third was off the mark. Pratt scored on the play and Mazunik came home when Nealer lifted a sacrifice fly to center. After Stuart drew a walk, Jaricka Simmerman singled through the left side scoring Ryan and trimming DePauw's lead to 4-3.
DePauw, however, matched that in the bottom of the sixth as Taylor Golden, Jennifer Ridge and Gabby Smart each singled to load the bases. A passed ball allowed pinch-runner Beth Chelmowski to score before pinch-hitter Megan Montgomery singled home Ridge and Smart.
Bell and Getz each had three of DePauw's 12 hits, while Button added two. Simmerman and Zavolta each had one hit for Allegheny.
Baldwin improved to 8-4 with the two-hit complete game, while Nealer dropped to 8-5.
The Tigers travel to Wittenberg on Wednesday, April 22, for a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader.
