Box Score 2 Delaware, Ohio - DePauw moved into sole possession of first place in the North Coast Athletic Conference after sweeping a doubleheader at Ohio Wesleyan by scores of 5-0 and 4-2.
With the wins, the Tigers improved to 20-11 overall and 9-1 in the conference, while Ohio Wesleyan dropped to 11-17 overall and 2-10 in the NCAC.
In the opener, Morgan McCord was hit by a pitch to lead off the second and stole second. Taylor Golden reached on an error on her sacrifice bunt which allowed McCord to go to third. McCord then scored as part of a double steal.
Sammi Bell's leadoff homer in the third made it 2-0 before the Tigers scored a pair of unearned runs in the fifth. They tacked on an insurance run in the seventh when Bell was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on Lauren Godden's grounder.
Bell had two of DePauw's six hits and scored three of its five runs. Erin Ferguson had both of the Bishops' hits.
Kahla Nolan improved to 10-6 with her seventh straight win and fourth shutout. Nolan struck out six and didn't allow a runner beyond second base. Sarah Flint dropped to 4-9 and allowed two earned run in seven innings.
In game two, Ohio Wesleyan struck first as Taylor Dickson led off the fourth with a single and pinch-runner Phoebe Bush stole second. Kayla Richard followed with an RBI single to right center.
That lead didn't last long as the Tigers scored four in the fifth. Jennifer Ridge led off the frame with a homer to center. Bell drew a one-out walk and moved to third on Elizabeth Getz's double to right. Linsey Button reached on a fielder's choice as her sacrifice bunt also plated Bell. Button then stole second and moved to third when an error on the play allowed Getz to score. Godden's double scored Button and gave DePauw a 4-1 lead.
Ohio Wesleyan added one in the sixth as Dickson singled and Flint tripled her home. The Bishops put two runners on in the seventh, but DePauw pitcher Emma Baldwin struck out Flint to end the game.
DePauw totaled five hits with five different players collecting one apiece. Dickson had three of the Bishops' six hits.
Baldwin improved to 7-4 and struck out eight in the complete game victory, while Kayla Pelham dropped to 1-2.
DePauw returns to action on Saturday, April 18, when it hosts Allegheny in a 1 p.m. doubleheader. The Tigers will raise funds and awareness for Type 1 Diabetes throughout the day as well as welcome former student-athletes back for the Inaugural DePauw Softball Alumni Weekend.
