Box Score 2 Bloomington, Ill. - DePauw got off to quick starts in both ends of its doubleheader at eighth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan and the Tigers came away with a split as they won the first game, 4-2, and dropped the nightcap, 7-4. The Tigers moved to 18-11, while the Titans dropped to 24-6.
The Tigers scored two in the opening frame of the first game as Sammi Bell led off with a walk and scored when Elizabeth Getz reached on an error. Getz advanced to third on the play and came home when Linsey Button laid down a bunt.
The Titans reached the board in the third as Summer Stitt led off with a walk and moved to third on Sam Gudat's single through the left side. Mary Rankin plated Stitt with a sacrifice fly to center.
Jennifer Ridge led off the fifth by reaching on an error, advanced to second on Gabby Smart's single and to third on Julia Waggoner's sacrifice bunt. After Bell was hit by a pitch, Getz delivered an RBI infield single.
In the sixth, Lauren Godden led off by reaching on an error and pinch-runner Morgan McCord moved to second on Megan Montgomery's sacrifice bunt. Taylor Golden then singled home McCord to make it 4-1.
Illinois Wesleyan scored once in the bottom of the sixth as Rankin led off with a double and moved to third on an error. Rankin scored on Amanda Lack's grounder.
Getz, Golden, Smart and Waggoner each had one hit for the Tigers, while Gudat and Rankin each had two of the Titans' six hits.
Kahla Nolan improved to 9-6 in the circle with her sixth straight win. Montgomery dropped to 14-2 with the loss.
In game two, DePauw scored three in the top of the first as Button hit a two-out, solo homer before Godden reached on an error. Andi Sarkisian entered as a pinch-runner before Alli Dennie hit a two-run homer to center.
The Titans scored one in the bottom of the inning as Hannah Bowen singled with one out and moved to second on a wild pitch. Rankin walked and both runners advanced on stolen bases. Danielle Smith singled, but interference was called on Rankin and which prevented Bowen from scoring. After Lack walked, Bowen stole home. DePauw pitcher Emma Baldwin struck out Cassidy Tarpey to end the inning.
Illinois Wesleyan knotted the score in the third as Bowen led off with a single and Smith followed with a homer to left. The Titans took a 5-3 lead in the fifth as they loaded the bases before Gudat singled home Tarpey and Stephanie Prentice came home on a wild pitch.
DePauw picked up one in the sixth when Ridge and Bell walked and Getz reached on an error that allowed Ridge to score.
The hosts tacked on a couple of insurance runs in the bottom half of the inning as Rankin walked, Smith singled and Lack walked to load the bases. Tarpey reached on an error that allowed Rankin to score. Lack later crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
DePauw totaled eight hits as Dennie led with two. Illinois Wesleyan totaled nine hits with Smith totaling three and Bowen adding two.
Emma Baldwin dropped to 6-4 and struck out seven but walked nine. Mackenzie Marquis improved to 6-1 with the relief win.
DePauw returns to North Coast Athletic Conference play tomorrow with a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader at Ohio Wesleyan.
