Big Innings are the Story as DePauw and John Carroll Split

Greencastle, Ind. - It was a day of big innings between DePauw and John Carroll as the host Tigers won game one, 13-3, and dropped the nightcap, 7-3. DePauw moved to 17-10 with the split, while the Blue Streaks are now 16-10.

In the opener, DePauw struck first with six in the bottom of the second. Jennifer Ridge, Gabby Smart and Julia Waggoner each reached on singles before Sammi Bell scored a pair with a single down the right field line that glanced off the right fielder's glove.

Elizabeth Getz doubled to right center, scoring Waggoner before Linsey Button laid down a bunt that hugged the first base line and plated Bell. Button was able to reach second on the play. Taylor Golden followed with a grounder that scored Getz and Alli Dennie doubled home Button.

John Carroll countered with two in the third as Lauren Cianciolo singled and Hannah Mizener homered down the left field line.

The Tigers added seven more in the third with the benefit of four John Carroll errors, while John Carroll's final run crossed in the fifth.

DePauw pounded out 14 hits in the opener as Getz and Ridge had three each and Godden followed with two. Mizener had two of John Carroll's four hits.

Kahla Nolan improved to 8-6 with the win, while Rachel Byrnes dropped to 9-5.

John Carroll wasted little time in game two as it scored six in the opening frame as the Tigers committed four errors in the inning.

The Tigers scored once in the bottom of the first as Alli Dennie reached on an error that allowed Button to score.

Cianciolo singled home Mikki Vance in the third to make it 7-1 before DePauw added single runs in the fifth and seventh. Godden's fifth-inning grounder plated Getz and Dennie's seventh-inning single scored Bell.

Button had two of DePauw's seven hits, while Cianciolo and Angie Zappitelli each had two of the Blue Streaks' eight hits.

KJ Holden dropped to 3-1 with the loss, while AnnMarie Kirchner improved to 7-4 with the complete game win.

DePauw returns to action on Tuesday, April 14, when it travels to Illinois Wesleyan for a 4 p.m. CDT doubleheader.
