Box Score 2 Atlanta, Ga. - DePauw split a pair of games at Oakhurst Park in Decatur, Ga., on Saturday, falling to Washington (St. Louis), 1-0, before defeating host Agnes Scott, 6-5. The Tigers are now 5-1 on the season.
In the opener, Emma Baldwin pitched seven innings of three-hit softball, but her teammates could only collect three hits.
The Tigers first two hits came in the bottom of the first inning, as left fielder Elizabeth Getz put a one-out single up the middle and advanced to second on a two-out single by first baseman Linsey Button.
DePauw's only other hit in the game came in the second, as Taylor Golden led off the inning with a single, but the runner could not advance as pinch runner Andi Sarkisian was thrown out attempting to stealing second.
The Bears scored the only run of the game in the top of the third, on a walk, a sacrifice, a wild pitch, and a double steal.
Baldwin struck out eight and walked three in the outing, pitching seven innings and allowing just three hits.
The nightcap against Agnes Scott featured much more offense. DePauw scored three runs in the top of the first. The rally started with a Megan Montgomery single, but she was erased on a Sammi Bell fielder's choice.
Bell stole second, and scored on the first of three consecutive RBI doubles by Linsey Button, Lauren Godden, and Taylor Golden to give the Tigers a 3-0 early lead.
Agnes Scott answered with three runs in the bottom of the first and took a 5-3 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run home run.
DePauw put together a seventh inning rally to re-take the lead. Getz started the offense in motion with a single, followed by a double from Bell that gave the Tigers two runners in scoring position. Button reached on a fielding error to load the bases, and Godden singled down the right field line to plate the Tigers fourth run.
Morgan McCord got the hit that gave DePauw the lead, with a double down the right field line, scoring two runs to put the Tigers on top 6-5. Agnes Scott's hitters were retired in order in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win for DePauw.
Kahla Nolan pitched all seven innings for DePauw. She struck out seven and walked one, allowing six hits. Only two of the five runs Nolan allowed were earned.
DePauw returns to action on Sunday, with a 10 a.m. game at Emory, followed immediately by a game against Randolph.
