Shenandoah, Texas - On the opening day of the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships, DePauw posted three honorable mention All-America swims and totaled 16 points to finish the day in a tie for 13th.
The Tigers started the day with Alex Grissom and Stephen McMurtry qualifying for the consolation finals in the 500-yard freestyle after entering the meet seeded 31st and 36th, respectively. Grissom finished prelims in 11th in 4:29.86, while McMurtry was 15th in 4:31.43. In the finals, Grissom finished 14th in 4:30.39, while McMurtry was 16th in 4:36.49.
The Tigers' 200 medley relay of Blake Lehmann, Mitchell Davis, Casey Hooker and Alex Alfonso was 12th in the prelims in 1:30.68 and then placed 11th in the finals in 1:30.53.
In other action from the prelims, Alex Alfonso finished 24th in the 200 individual medley (1:52.18), while Blake Lehmann was 21st in the 50 free (20.59) and Brandon Sholtis was 47th (21.18).
DePauw's men return to the pool on Thursday morning with prelims starting at 10 a.m. CDT. The Tigers' 200 free relay is seeded seventh, while the 400 medley relay is 17th.
Lehmann and Alfonso will compete in the 100 butterfly with Hooker, Alex Grissom and McMurtry swimming in the 200 free. Hooker is seeded fourth in the 200 free.
