Box Score Greencastle, Ind. - The 25th-ranked Tigers opened the home portion of their schedule against seventh-ranked Trine, but the Thunder spoiled the debut by beating DePauw 10-0 in the opener. Game two of the twinbill was suspended due to darkness after four innings with Trine holding a 13-4 lead.
Trine jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when Carly Searles led off the game with a homer to right center. Searles drove home Dani Kirchner in the second with a triple down the left field line.
Amy Newell's leadoff homer in the third made it 3-0 before Jamie Schnarr singled and later crossed home on Kendra Marshall's double to left center.
The Thunder added two more in the fifth and four in the sixth as the game ended after six due to the eight-run rule.
DePauw totaled six hits with Sammi Bell, Elizabeth Getz, Linsey Button, Jennifer Ridge, Amanda Chastang and Gabby Smart finishing with one each.
Searles and Schnarr each had two of Trine's nine hits.
Kahla Nolan started in the circle for the Tigers and dropped to 3-3, while Justine Robles improved to 6-1 with the shutout.
In game two, DePauw scored two in the bottom of the first and each team added one in the second. Trine pushed across seven in the third and five in the fourth before the Tigers plated one in the bottom of the fourth. The game was suspended with Trine coming to bat in the top of the fifth. An effort will be made to resume the suspended game.
DePauw returns to action on Sunday, March 22, when it travels to Salisbury for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
