Box Score 2 Westfield, Ind.- The 25th-ranked DePauw softball team rebounded after a 1-0 loss to Franklin, picking up a 5-4 victory in game two, splitting a doubleheader with the Grizzlies on Sunday night at Grand Park.
The Tigers moved to 7-3 on the year, while Franklin sits at 7-5 this season.
In game one, Megan Lalioff drew a leadoff walk and promptly stole second. Katie Struewing hit a two-out single to left, plating Lalioff from third for the game's first run. Struewing's single would prove to be Franklin's only hit of the contest.
Neither team would tally another hit until Linsey Button singled to left with two outs in the bottom of the fourth. DePauw failed to score in the fourth and would strand baserunners in the next three frames.
The Tigers' best scoring chance came in the fifth inning as Jennifer Ridge singled and moved to second on Julia Waggoner's sacrifice bunt. Ridge advanced to third on a groundout, but was stranded there as Alli Dennie was retired to end the threat.
Olivia Paszek picked up the complete-game victory, scattering four hits with four strikeouts. Kahla Nolan took the loss, allowing just one hit over four innings of work. Emma Baldwin tossed three scoreless innings in relief.
DePauw jumped out to a quick lead in game two, tallying a pair of runs in the first. Taylor Golden earned a leadoff walk, stole second and moved to third on Getz's single. Sammi Bell delivered an RBI single to the left side and Button followed with an RBI groundout.
Franklin tacked on a run in the third on McKensie Vanosdol's RBI fielder's choice. The Grizzlies would add three runs in the top of the sixth, collecting four hits in the inning. Vanosdol doubled to open the frame and pinch runner McKinley Choate would score on back-to-back wild pitches. Taylor Johnson and Anne Schwomeyer added two-out RBI singles, giving Franklin a 4-2 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Tigers would capitalize on two errors to retake a 5-4 lead. Button doubled down the right field line and moved to third on Lauren Godden's single. After Godden was caught stealing, Ridge reached on an error, allowing Button to score. Waggoner reached on a bunt single and advanced to third on a throwing error, plating Ridge from first. Gabby Smart singled, giving DePauw a 5-4 lead as Waggoner scored from third.
Baldwin sealed the victory, retiring the side in order in the seventh. She improved to 4-1 on the year, tossing three innings in relief. KJ Holden started for the Tigers, going four innings with two strikeouts and allowing four hits and one run.
Vanosdol took the loss, tossing six innings with three strikeouts and just three earned runs.
DePauw is back in action tomorrow when they host Trine for a doubleheader starting at 4:00 p.m. in Greencastle.
