Box Score 2 Memphis, Tenn. - DePauw opened the season with a pair of wins at Rhodes College. The Tigers opened with a 5-1 victory against 21st-ranked Washington University before taking a 4-3 win over the host Lynx.
In the opener, the Bears took a 1-0 lead in the opening frame as Kenzie James reached on an error and stole second. After Adrienne White was hit by a pitch, James scored when White attempted to steal second.
The Tigers took the lead in the bottom of the second when Sammi Bell led off with a walk and scored on Taylor Golden's two-run homer.
Washington loaded the bases with two out in the third, but couldn't score. The Tigers added three in the sixth as Jennifer Ridge singled and stole second. She moved to third on Lauren Godden's grounder. After Golden walked and stole second, Andi Sarkisian was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Grace Hendrickson delivered a two-run single to right center and a passed ball allowed Sarkisian to score.
Ridge had two of DePauw's six hits, while Golden and Hendrickson each drove in two. Paige Biles, Janet Taylor and Sydney Caldwell each had two of the Bears' seven hits.
Kahla Nolan picked up the win after allowing just one unearned run in seven inning while striking out one and walking five. Annie Pitkin suffered the loss after allowing six hits while striking out five with two walks.
Rhodes struck first in the second game of the day as the Lynx scored in the bottom of the first. Parker led off with a walk and stole second. She moved to third on Sutton's single and scored on a passed ball.
Bell led off the DePauw second with a double and scored after bunts from Godden and Golden.
Rhodes regained the lead in the bottom of the second as Maggie Mitchell led off with a walk, moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on a passed ball. She scored on Makenzie Martin's single to left.
Hendrickson led off the DePauw third with a double and scored on Morgan McCord's single to left to even the score at 2-2.
Christine Hume's solo homer in the third put Rhodes in front, 3-2, but the Tigers quickly knotted the score in the fourth on Bell's homer.
The Tigers scored the eventual game winner in the fifth as Hendrickson singled with one out and moved to second when McCord reached on an error. Julia Waggoner delivered a two-out single to left and Hendrickson scored on an error on the play.
Bell and Hendrickson each had two of DePauw's six hits, while three different Lynx had one hit apiece.
Emma Baldwin pitched the complete game in her collegiate debut and allowed just three hits, while striking out 10 and walking four.
DePauw faces Maryville (Tenn.) tomorrow at 9 a.m. CST and Rhodes at 11.
