Box Score Meadville, Pa. - DePauw extended its win streak to three and picked up its first North Coast Athletic Conference road win of the season after topping Allegheny by a 60-56 count.
The Tigers improved to 14-6 overall and 7-6 in the conference and moved into a tie for fourth in the standings, while the Gators slipped to 10-10 overall and 7-6 in the NCAC.
DePauw trailed just once, at 5-4, and led by as many as 11 in the opening half after Luke Lattner and Michael Onuorah each hit buckets to push the lead to 28-17. Connor Rich's three-pointer with 38 seconds left gave the Tigers a 36-26 lead at the break.
DePauw's lead reached 12 in the opening minutes of the second half before Allegheny scored nine straight capped by Andrew Sestina's jumper which made it 44-41 with 10:13 remaining.
Rich and Bradley Fey stopped the run as each hit a three to give the Tigers a 50-41 advantage. Allegheny's Josh Valentic scored with 8:08 left and the teams went without a field goal for nearly five minutes before DePauw's Mark Johnson scored to make it 56-47 at the 3:27 mark.
Bob Dillon and Rich each hit a pair of free throws in the closing minute to seal the victory.
Luke Lattner and Rich each scored 13 for DePauw, while Fey added 10 after hitting all three three-pointers. Johnson matched a career high with nine rebounds, while Dillon dished out four assists.
Valentic paced Allegheny with 19 points with E. Zabriski finishing with 11 along with a game-high 10 rebounds.
DePauw shot 38.6 percent from the floor to the Gators' 40.4 percent. Allegheny held a 37-34 edge on the boards.
The Tigers return to the court tomorrow at Hiram in a 4 p.m. contest.
