Box Score Greencastle, Ind. – After a big win against conference leader Kenyon on Saturday, the DePauw field hockey team suffered a setback with a 2-1 overtime loss to Denison on Sunday.
Britta Marden scored the game-winning goal with 38 seconds left remaining in the first overtime. She capitalized on a turnover and took the ball up field about 20 yards to score in front of the net.
At 65:08 in the second half, Denison tied the game off a deflection in front of the net as DePauw was unable to respond to the two unanswered goals.
Reilly Bruce scored her 12th goal of the year and the Tigers' lone goal of the game after the teams played to a scoreless first half. At 50:22, Bruce took the pass off the corner from Rose Revolinski and fired it into the back of the net.
Sarah Guendert (11-4) took the loss in net for the Tigers, while Ellen Westfall (11-6) captured the win for the Big Red. Westfall made 10 saves, and Guendert made eight.
DePauw barely outshot Denison 16-15, and Denison took 10 penalty corners to DePauw's six.
The loss drops DePauw to 11-4 overall and 10-2 in the NCAC where they now sit in second place. Denison moves to 11-6 overall and 9-3 in the NCAC, which puts them in third.
DePauw has just two games remaining on its regular season schedule. They travel to Earlham on Wednesday before heading home next Saturday to face Ohio Wesleyan.
