Box Score Greencastle, Ind. – Playing to a scoreless tie late in the second half, the men's soccer team finally found the back of the net with just under 15 minutes to go for a 1-0 win over Hiram on Saturday.
Julian Gonzalez made it happen, flying down the left side of the field before crossing the ball and finding Jonathan Wheeler open in front of the net. Wheeler punched it in for the game-winner and for his second goal of the season.
The rest of the game was even throughout. DePauw outshot Hiram 9-4 and took seven corners to Hiram's two. DePauw also committed 12 fouls while Hiram committed 10.
Chris Yount recorded yet another shutout for his sixth of the year. He improved to 7-1-2.
Matt Sacher took the loss in net for Hiram. He drops to 4-3 overall.
Meanwhile, the Tigers move to 8-1-2 overall and 3-0 in the NCAC. Hiram drops to 5-5-2 and 1-2 in the NCAC.
The Tigers played to about 300 fans as they celebrated their seniors. Before the game they recognized Yount, Adrian Ables, Chris Schoenfeld, Alieu Musa, Mitch Reavis and Jon Krok.
DePauw is off until Wednesday when they travel to Wittenberg.
