Berliner Scores Four; 20th Ranked Tigers Stay Unbeaten

Box Score

Greencastle, Ind.- After knocking off fourth-ranked Christopher Newport on Saturday, the 20th-ranked Tigers were back in action against the visiting Centre College Colonels. Freshman Paige Berliner scored four goals leading DePauw to a 5-3 victory.

With the win the Tigers improved to 4-0, while Centre dropped to 2-2 on the year.

It was the "Berliner Show" early on as the freshman tallied three goals in the opening six minutes. She led the offensive barrage that forced the Colonels to use an early timeout trailing 3-0. Senior Paige Henry provided an assist on Berliner's second goal of the contest.

Following the timeout, Centre regained some momentum aided by a pair of goals from Kelsey Gordon. In the 19th minute Alex Ferrera fired a shot that deflected off Gordon's stick and found the back of the cage. Hayley Barker assisted on Gordon's second goal in the 23rd minute.

In the second half, it was Berliner who extended the Tiger's lead on an unassisted goal just two minutes into the half. Henry would tally an insurance goal in the 43rd minute on an assist from Grace Goodbarn.

Centre's Megan Flocken would round out the game's scoring as she tallied a goal in the 46th minute on an assist from Alicia Kalbfleisch.

DePauw outshot the Colonels by a 29-9 mark and held a 20-6 edge on penalty corners. Centre goalie Kirby Roberts totaled five saves in a losing effort.

The Tigers return to action Saturday, September 13, when they open up North Coast Athletic Conference play at Kenyon.
