20th Ranked Tigers Take Down #4 Christopher Newport

Box Score

Greencastle, Ind.- The 4th-ranked Christopher Newport Captains rolled into Reavis Stadium looking for a repeat victory over DePauw, after winning last year's showdown 3-0. However, it was the 20th-ranked Tigers who emerged victorious, scoring in the 63rd minute to seal a 2-1 win.

With the win, DePauw advanced to 3-0 overall, while Christopher Newport dropped to 2-1 on the year.

Scoreless though the first 44 minutes, it was DePauw's Addie Ball who knocked in the game's first goal on an assist from Paige Henry. Christopher Newport would answer nine minutes later when Moira Wright found the back of the cage on an unassisted strike.

The tightly contested battle appeared to be destined for overtime before Henry scored the Tiger's second goal on an assist from Grace Goodbarn with just 6:30 left on the clock. DePauw would hold on for the victory to remain unbeaten on the year.

The Tigers outshot Christopher Newport 16-5, while the Captains held a 7-6 edge on penalty corners. Maggie Steele made two saves for the Tigers and Bailey Lien totaled nine saves in the loss.

In game two, Centre defeated Wittenberg by a score of 3-1. Julie Gates, Erin Mays and Kelsey Gordon all scored for Centre, while Hayley Barker and Mays provided assists. Casey Fry scored on an assist from Michelle Murray for Wittenberg.

All four teams are back in action tomorrow at Reavis Stadium. Wittenberg plays Christopher Newport starting at noon and DePauw plays Centre at 2:30 p.m.
